Main Info
Experience the magic of Kenya’s most famous wildlife destination on a 3-day Maasai Mara group safari designed for travelers who want an authentic safari experience at a more accessible price.
Over three days, you’ll travel from Nairobi into the wide-open landscapes of the Maasai Mara, with time for game drives in search of lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and other African wildlife. You’ll share the safari vehicle with fellow travelers while enjoying the guidance of an experienced local safari guide.
This is a great option if you’re traveling solo, as a couple or with friends and would like to experience the Maasai Mara without the cost of a private safari. With two nights in or around the Mara and dedicated game-viewing time, the itinerary keeps the focus where it belongs, on the wildlife and the incredible Kenyan landscape.
Why Choose a 3-Day Maasai Mara Group Safari?
The Maasai Mara offers some of the most memorable wildlife experiences in Kenya. Its open grasslands and rich ecosystem support an extraordinary variety of animals, making every game drive an opportunity for something unexpected.
A group-sharing safari is also a wonderful way to meet other travelers along the way. You’ll share the vehicle and game drives while still having plenty of time to enjoy the Mara, photograph the scenery and watch wildlife at your own pace.
For travelers with limited time in Kenya, three days provides a convenient introduction to the Maasai Mara without requiring a longer safari itinerary.
Itinerary
Your adventure begins with pickup from your Nairobi hotel or a designated pickup point in the morning. We leave Nairobi behind and travel towards the Maasai Mara, with a stop along the way at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint where you can take in the spectacular scenery.
Continuing towards the Mara, the landscape gradually opens into the rolling countryside and grasslands of southwestern Kenya.
After arriving at your accommodation and having lunch, you'll head out for your first afternoon game drive.
This is your first chance to experience the Mara in the wild. Keep your eyes open for elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and, with some luck, predators such as lions and cheetahs.
As the afternoon light softens across the plains, continue exploring before returning to camp for dinner and your first night in the Maasai Mara.
Today is all about the Maasai Mara.
After an early breakfast, set out for a full-day game drive with a packed picnic lunch. Starting early gives you the opportunity to experience the reserve during the cooler hours when many animals are most active.
Your safari guide will navigate the reserve and adjust the day's route according to wildlife movements and current conditions. You may encounter large herds of zebra and wildebeest, elephants moving across the plains, giraffes browsing among the vegetation and big cats resting or hunting.
The Mara is particularly famous for its predators, so keep watch for lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas.
Enjoy your picnic lunch surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African wilderness before continuing your game drive through the afternoon.
Later, return to your accommodation for dinner and a well-earned rest.
Day 3: Maasai Mara to Nairobi
Enjoy breakfast before beginning your journey back towards Nairobi.
As you leave the Maasai Mara, take in the final views of the rolling grasslands and surrounding countryside. The journey back gives you another chance to experience rural Kenya before returning to the city.
Your 3-day Maasai Mara group safari ends with drop-off in Nairobi, allowing you to continue with your onward travel plans.
